Colombia Motorcycle Market keeps booming. Although the already huge increase reported in recent years, the start of 2026 was again very positive with first quarter sales hitting a new record with 282.527 registrations (+17.9%).

Macroeconomic Outlook

Colombia’s economy is navigating a gradual post-pandemic recovery, characterized by resilience in some sectors and persistent structural challenges in others. While overall activity has improved, growth remains uneven, with certain industries expanding strongly and others constrained by regulatory and financial headwinds.

Private consumption and investment are gradually regaining momentum, supported by improving business sentiment and a more stable external environment. However, the recovery remains fragile, particularly in construction and housing, where tight financing conditions continue to limit demand.

Inflation, after a period of moderation, is showing renewed pressure—especially in food prices—complicating the central bank’s efforts to steer inflation toward its 3% target and maintaining a cautious monetary stance. Meanwhile, labor market conditions are improving, although informality remains a structural constraint.

Motorcycle Market: Trends and Perspectives

Colombia’s motorcycle market has been one of the most dynamic globally in the post-pandemic period. Between 2021 and 2024, sales expanded rapidly, despite a temporary setback in 2023 caused by currency depreciation and sharp price increases.

Building on the strong rebound of the previous year, the market surged again in 2025, surpassing the 1 million-unit milestone for the first time in history, reaching approximately 1.07 million units, up an exceptional 33.1% year on year.

This performance confirms Colombia as one of the fastest-growing two-wheeler markets worldwide, driven by urban mobility needs, affordability considerations, and expanding middle-class demand.

Even the electric segment, still very small, reported a consistent +91% increase.

Market Leaders and Competitive Dynamics

The competitive landscape shifted significantly in 2026. Bajaj Auto emerged confirming the leadership gained last year, with sales soaring 20.8%, capitalizing on its strong value-for-money positioning.

AKT ranked second, achieving record sales and growing 3.1%, ranking ahead of Suzuki, which reported a moderate growth (+13.6%).

Further down the ranking, Honda (+45.9%) and Yamaha (-3.2%) were ahead of TVS Motor (+13.1%) which continued expanding its footprint.

Notably, Hero (+44.8%) recorded double-digit growth, signaling intensifying competition in the entry-level segment.

Colombian motorcycles industry heritage

In the last decade the Colombian motorcycle industry was completely transformed becoming not just a lifestyle sector, as in the past, but a key factor in the private mobility, thanks to the expansion of product offer, the fall of prices, the increased care for safety and the youngest generation love.

So today there is a wider range of consumers approaching the purchase of a motorcycle to transport themselves to the university, to their workplaces or working for the new fast developing category of delivery-men, people who use motorcycles to fast deliver everything, from food to goods.

Today in Colombia over 50% of vehicles park is on two-wheeler and in average there is a motorcycles each 5 people living in the country. These data allow to explain why motorcycles are actually an important tool for Colombians, for transportation, for lifestyle and for working as well.

To achieve these outstanding performance a brilliant job has been done by the government, which has progressively changed rules to guide the sector evolution, and by the manufacturers, which have made a tremendous effort to create local facilities and produce high quality-good priced vehicles and related products such as accessories, equipment and special clothing.

In Colombia there are six motorcycle manufacturers (the oldest is active since 1942) which operate assembling in partnership with top international firms, like Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Kymco, Victory, Yamaha, Suzuki, Hero producing both for domestic market and export.

The Colombian motorcycles market is the third largest in Latin America after Brazil, Mexico and ahead of Argentina.
