SYM consolidated its position as the largest Taiwanese motorcycle manufacturer, with 544,790 global registrations in 2025 (+1.4%), maintaining leadership in Taiwan and continuing its long-term expansion strategy.

McD tracks new vehicles registrations across the World (97+ countries), reporting data on calendar year. When you wish to compare data reported by us to those declared by the manufacturers, consider they usually report their “sales” (vehicles invoiced), which are usually different from “registrations”, accordingly with their fiscal year split.

Global Registrations Data

SYM (Sanyang Motor Co., Ltd) has been the largest Taiwanese motorcycle manufacturer since 2020, when its global sales surpassed those of its long-time domestic rival Kymco. Since 2022, SYM has also held leadership in the Taiwanese domestic market for the first time in its history.

Over the past decade, the Taiwanese manufacturer has significantly expanded its global presence while strengthening its position at home. Global sales have more than doubled compared with the approximately 250,000 units recorded a decade ago.

With Taiwan and Europe as its core markets, SYM has developed a strong premium scooter lineup, offering competitive features and performance at prices often more aggressive than those of Japanese and European rivals. The company also produces motorcycles, although volumes in this segment remain relatively limited.

The best year in SYM’s history was 2020, when Taiwan was one of the few countries largely unaffected by the COVID-19 crisis. During that period, local manufacturers pushed aggressive discount campaigns to clear production that could not be exported due to global border closures.

Excluding that exceptional peak, SYM’s sales have followed a steady upward trend, reaching 544,790 units in 2025, a modest +1.4% increase year-on-year.

Considering the overall weakness of the European motorcycle market in 2025, SYM’s performance can be considered resilient: sales declined only 1.3% in Europe, while the company recorded strong growth in other regions such as Latin America (+60.8%) and Africa (+27.5%), where it has a particularly strong presence in the Maghreb area.

In Taiwan, sales increased 1.2%, enough to maintain market leadership.
