Honda Motorcycles reached a new all-time record in 2025 with 20.7 million units sold (+4.9%), marking five consecutive years of recovery and reinforcing its undisputed global leadership in two-wheelers. Honda remains underexposed in EVs.

McD tracks new vehicles registrations across the World (97+ countries), reporting data on calendar year. When you wish to compare data reported by us to those declared by the manufacturers, consider they usually report their “sales” (vehicles invoiced), which are usually different from “registrations”, accordingly with their fiscal year split.

Honda remains the undisputed global leader in the two-wheeler industry (motorcycles and scooters, excluding the powersports segment). After years of sustained expansion, the COVID-19 shock abruptly interrupted growth, with annual sales falling by nearly 5 million units in a single year to below 15 million.

The rebound, however, was swift and decisive. Following five consecutive years of growth, Honda reached a new all-time record in 2025 with 20.7 million units sold, up 4.9% over the previous peak year.

Growth was geographically broad-based. Sales increased in all major regions, with Latin America leading in double digits (+15.6%). In ASEAN—the company’s largest region, accounting for nearly half of global volumes—sales rose 3.2%, putting Honda on track to reach the symbolic milestone of 10 million annual units in the region by 2026.

In India, after the strong rebound recorded in 2024 (+30.5%), growth continued in 2025 (+1.6%). Honda is intensifying competition with Hero in one of the few major markets where it is not yet the leader. Strategically, Honda announced plans to build the world’s largest dedicated electric two-wheeler plant in India by 2026, signaling long-term commitment to the EV transition in a critical growth market.

Europe was another positive surprise: despite an overall industry downturn, Honda posted a +4.3% increase, gaining market share.

However, Honda remains notably underexposed in the electric segment. EV sales in 2025 were still marginal relative to total volumes. While new electric scooters are being introduced—starting in fast-adopting markets such as Vietnam—the company is clearly in a catch-up phase compared with several regional and Chinese competitors.

Strategic Perspective

Honda’s scale, geographic diversification, and manufacturing strength continue to underpin record performance. The key strategic question for the next cycle is whether Honda can replicate its internal combustion engine dominance in the electric era—or whether its cautious EV rollout will leave room for more aggressive competitors to capture early leadership in high-growth segments.
