All motorcycles should have a plate

Morocco Motorcycles industry totally changed after the mid-2015 new rules applied for two wheelers importation and homologation (regarding 0-50 cc).

Indeed, no rules were in place before, and the Government aimed to define standard for quality, aware that less than 10% of scooter imported in the country where respecting the quality and safety standards recognized in Europe.

The Government issued a law on this subject in the 2010 giving 5 years to the industry to complain the new standard and from May 20th, 2015, motorcycles with >50 cc must be registered – so previously homologated – as already required for the models above the 50cc

After these new regulations, Chinese brands sales dropped down, as their segment, the entry level-low displacement collapsed. Japanese – Yamaha and Honda on top – gained share while the most of the market shifted around the 125 cc segment.

Initially, the market dropped down from 180K in 2014 to 74k in 2017.

However, from 2017 the market evolved into quality product becoming very similar to the European markets and the sales volumes grew up to over 100K, in the range of the 5th market in Europe (Great Britain), with a mix in favor of scooter segment (over 70% of the total) versus the motorcycles.
