European Electric Scooter & Motorcycles Market is struggling. year to date May 2024 sales at 64.086 (+16.7%). However data are quite different is we exclude the booming Turkish market.

Please note data reported regards the motorcycles industry in large extended, including not only 2/3 wheelers as moped, scooter, motorcycles, but even other vehicles, like ATVs, usually included in this industry. Differently from ACEA and other local sources (like FEBIAC), we do not consider the powered-bicycles inside the industry, even because data available regards only registered bicycles and are limited to those countries (Belgium, Netherlands, France) where a plate is required.

As you may have seen, reading our report on European Motorcycles Market, it seems that the momentum has not been lost by the industry in 2024, although combined negative factors should hit the consumer’s demand, starting from increased cost of global logistic, raw material, energy and the market acceleration due to covid 19 is now over, while increased interest rates and reduced purchase power can hit the market in the next future.

Looking at the electric two wheeler segment, data aggregated for the entire region looks still almost positive, with year to date May 2024 sales at 64.086 (+16.7%). However data are quite different is we exclude the booming Turkish market.

Looking only at the Western European market (30 countries including UK) the segment has lost 11.3% this year, following the 21% lost in 2023, while in East Europe (8 countries including Turkey) sales boomed 90%, after the +264 reported last year.

At country level, Turkey is the largest market with sales up again 92.7%, followed by  France (+29.8%) the Netherlands (+1.8%).

Behind,  Italy (-33.5%), Spain (+46.9%), Germany (-30.3%), Belgium (+7.5%), the United Kingdom (+0.4%), Austria (+11.1%) and Denmark (-5.4%).
