Argentina Motorcycles Industry Trend and Perspectives
The Motorcycles Market in Argentina started the 2022 roaring as in the second part of the previous year. Following the sharp fall reported in the 2017-2020, the market is rebounding fast.
In the first quarter scooter and motorcycles sales have been 119.900 (+36.8%), the fastest speed in Latin America (better than Brazil reported yesterday!) with all segments up.
The electric market keep to fast grow and sales improved 520% in the L1 segment and 1225% in the L3. However, the relative weight of this segments is still marginal.
Top seller was Honda (+51.6%) followed by Motomel (+41.6%), Corven (+27.8%) and Gilera (+24.3%).
Motorcycles Market Trend 2021
Following the 2019-2020 deep financial and economic crisis, which hardly hit the motorcycles market pushing down the sales from 572.266 (2018) to 263.795 (2020), the industry is recovering and in 2021 reported a strong increase, while remaining at the half of the all-time record sales scored in 2013.
In 2021 total two wheeler sales were 374.774, up 42.7% and the perspectives for the 2022 are almost positive although GDP growth will decline and inflation rate will stay in the sky.
Looking at the competitive arena, the market leader is again Honda with 72.291 sales (+20.3%) very far from the 160.000 sales reported in the 2013 record.
In second place the domestic manufacturer Motomel with 53.155 (+46.6%) followed by Corven with 49.366 (+45.3%), both far from their top score.
In fourth place Gilera was up 55.4% and the oldest Argentine manufacturer, Zanella ranked 5th with a strong recovery (+48.1%). Zanella has over 75 years of history and was market leader last time in 2017. The current sales level is only at 25% of four years ago!
In 6th place Keller (+48.1%) followed by the emerging Mondial (+116%), the Indian Bajaj Auto (+52.5%).
Yamaha is only in 9th place with sales up a little 9%. The Japanese is really struggling selling 16.495 motorcycles versus the 72.892 hit in the 2013.
With the landing of a Chinese strong manufacturer (Xinri Sunra) the electric vehicles segment finally started up, reaching over 1 thousand units and creating the base for next years expected boom.
