Japanese Motorcycles Market was moderately positive last year. In 2023 the market was very stable with final sales at 401.645 (+1.1%). Scooter segment is pumped up by Electric L1 sales (+49.1%) and electric L3 (+51.1%).

The Japanese domestic motorcycles market is the 18th largest in the World having lost since years the rule of leading market, gained since 70′ of the last century.

Today, the use of motorcycles and scooters in Japan is limited to a small portion of the population as alternative commuting devices are preferred. However, two-wheelers lovers are still several in the country and any year, new vehicles sold are around 0.4 million.

Recently the market was almost stable, while the covid 19 effects in 2020 have been temporarily positive, interrupting the slow decline, with the lowest sales level of the last 60 years achieved in 2019.

The market was again over the 0.4 million in 2021, but both in 2022 and in 2023 was steady there.

Looking at the top manufacturers, Honda reported a +4.0% sales increase, while Suzuki is down (-1.2%), Yamaha is -5.4% and Kawasaki is losing sharply (-10.3%).

Following the record established last year, Harley-Davidson was down 2.6%, while it is introducing the new X350 and X500 made in China.
